The Sound of Sea Animals ne débarque pas ici avec un album d’ambiance subaquatique pour les mordus de la plongée sous-marine, mais bien avec le projet folk-rock-psychédélique d’un seul homme: Etienne Chan Kane. Ce multi-instrumentiste amoureux de rock et de noise développe d’abord son jeu au sein du groupe Comme un homme libre, tandis qu’il joue de la basse avec Le Kid & les Marinelli’s, s’implique en tant que directeur de tournée pour les Breastfeeders, puis participe à la réalisation d’albums de groupes tels que Demon’s Claws. L’auteur-compositeur et interprète de The Sound of Sea Animals déploie finalement sa créativité par le biais des 16 pièces de son premier album « Fractions of Fictions », qui débarque sur les tablettes le 30 septembre prochain.
Alors que ses diverses expériences musicales alimentent son inspiration, sa passion pour le cinéma des années 60 nourrit carrément son œuvre. Comme au ciné, les chansons défilent scène par scène, tout en accent et en nuance. Tandis que la ligne directrice est axée sur la voix, la trame sonore qui l’enveloppe devient une mélodie à elle seule lorsqu’extraite de la chanson.
L’album Fractions of Fictions, mélange parcimonieux des courants musicaux d’hier et d’aujourd’hui, vous imprégnera de paysages cinématographiques psychédéliques inspirés des plans-séquences de Sergio Leone; un incontournable pour tous les fervents de musique, de cinéma, mais surtout pour tous les amateurs de chansons finement ficelées.
Fractions of Fictions: the first album by The Sound of Sea Animals
The Sound of Sea Animals isn’t releasing a sub-aquatic ambience album for deep-sea-diving enthusiasts, but instead, the psych/folk/rock project of one man, Etienne Chan Kane. This multi-instrumentalist and lover of rock and noise cut his teeth playing with Comme un homme libre, while at the same time, playing bass with Kid & the Marinellis, and tour managing for les Breastfeeders, and at the same time working on albums by a number of groups, including Demon’s Claws. The writer, composer and performer of The Sound of Sea Animals ultimately channeled his creativity into the 16 tracks of his first record, Fractions of Fictions, which will appear on shelves as of September 30.
While his diverse musical background feeds his inspiration, his passion for cinema of the 1960’s feeds his work. Just like in the movies, Chan Kane’s songs stream in and out, with different moods and nuances. When the main voice is cut from the song, the remaining soundtrack, which had enveloped the vocals, becomes a melody in itself.
Fractions of Fictions carefully culls musical trends from yesterday and today to infuse the album with the psychedelic cinematic landscapes inspired by Sergio Leone. The record is a must for any fan of music, or movies, but mainly for anyone who loves a neatly composed song.
