Après la parution de Solitudes, le disque maintenant certifié Or qui l’a fait connaître au grand public, Matt Holubowski a sillonné le Canada, l’Europe et les États-Unis, présentant au-delà de 200 spectacles. S’en est suivie une retraite d’écriture dont il n’est sorti que pour offrir, l’été dernier, le concert de clôture du Festival International de Jazz de Montréal devant une foule conquise. Il sera retour sur les planches en début d’année prochaine avec de nouvelles chansons écrites entre Paris, Cracovie, Banff et Montréal. Lors de cette tournée sous le signe de la liberté, l’auteur-compositeur-interprète et ses musiciens poussent un cran plus loin les explorations musicales et les expérimentations sonores, nous faisant voyager entre douceur et intensité.

Il présente aujourd’hui Thoroughfare, une première chanson annonciatrice de son nouvel album à venir en 2020.

« Thoroughfare parle de suivre quelque chose de pur et de beau à travers un chemin étroit et coloré, mais en se perdant un peu en cours de route, et en laissant derrière un morceau de soi-même qu’on abandonne à jamais dans le temps.

J’ai toujours délibérément évité de parler à propos de l’amour dans mes chansons dans le passé. Par contre, certains évènements de ma vie dans les dernières années ont fait en sorte que je ne puisses plus l’ignorer cette fois ci et donc ça se retrouve à s’imprégner dans littéralement toutes mes chansons d’une façon ou d’une autre. J’ai enfin compris pourquoi les gens écrivent des chansons d’amour: c’est libérateur. »

After the release of Solitudes, the now-certified Gold album that introduced him to the general public, Matt Holubowski criss-crossed Canada, Europe and the United States, giving over 200 concerts in two and a half years. This was followed by a creative retreat that was pause ever so briefly to perform the closing show of last summer’s Montreal International Jazz Festival before a captivated audience. He will back on stage early next year with songs written in and around Paris, Krakow, Banff and Montreal. In this show, under the banner of freedom, the singer-songwriter and his musicians will push musical exploration and experimental sound up a notch, transporting us between sensibility and intensity.

He presents today Thoroughfare, a new song foreshadowing his new record to be released in 2020.

« Thoroughfare is about following something pure and beautiful down a narrow, colourful path, but getting a little lost along the way and leaving a bit of yourself behind, quietly lost in time.

I’ve always deliberately avoided talking about love in my songs in the past, but certain events in my life in the last few years made it impossible for me to ignore it this time around. It’s literally in all the songs now, in some way or another. I couldn’t help myself. And I finally understood why people write love songs. They’re liberating. »
