As supercharged reviews and word-of-mouth contribute to the surging popularity of The National Parcs, the Montreal group now releases “Powerline,” an irresistible, upbeat single from Timbervision, their genre-bending videomusic CD/DVD for the new millennium. Long after its June 2007 release, the English-language Timbervision continues to attract critical acclaim, with Rupert Bottenberg of the alt-weekly Montreal Mirror hailing TNP’s “accessible, memorable pop album.”The National Parcs – Vincent Letellier (Freeworm), Chimwemwe Miller and Ian Cameron – have stolen the media spotlight. The electric reception that greeted their Montreal premiere at the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal in November 2007 left no doubt that the project clicks onstage just as well as it did in the Canadian wilderness where the original recordings were laid down. After the TNP show at Quebec City’s Festival Antenne-A in October 2007, Élodie Gagnon sang their praises on Radio-Canada’s Bandeapart.fm blog: “Grinning from ear to ear, dancing and interacting with the crowd and each other, the group makes it look as easy as if they’d just come off a world tour.” TNP further amped up their reputation during their performance at the Théâtre National on February 15, 2008, winning over every last person in the 700-strong crowd.Accolades are pouring in from all corners. TNP and the design firm Uniform recently learned that their Timbervision poster and CD/DVD case have both received a Grafika award, one of the highest honours in Quebec graphic design. Finally, TNP have signed with The Agency Group, which has already begun organizing next summer’s national tour. In the meantime, TNP have been nominated for the indie Montreal International Music Initiative (MIMI) Awards and will perform as part of that event’s gala night this Saturday, March 1.
From coast to coast and beyond, The National Parcs are charging ahead to the pulsing beat of their new single, “Powerline.”
